Video shows how bloggers can learn from magazines

Catch this video by Darren Rowse of ProBlogger.net where he analyzes a magazine (Marie Claire) to see what kind of design techniques they’re using.

If I was going to pick a magazine for this kind of analysis it would probably be Golf Digest. They publish articles on the same topics over and over again (e.g., “How to shave 10 strokes off your handicap”, blah, blah, blah)

It’s also a good example of how not to use your iphone to make a video.

Magazines and blogs are different. Most bloggers don’t have the time or money to spend on fancy graphics and the sort of design you see in a magazine – especially the cover.

Hi Anton,
Yes, I agree with you. Most blogs are basically just written content. But I think Darren’s point in the video is that we can learn something from the way magazines highlight certain things, use short catchy titles, and accentuate their stories with photos and graphics. Usually even simple images are better than none at all.
