When Facebook developed “Fan Pages” it was to give companies, organizations, clubs, bands, etc., a place within Facebook to identify and promote their brand, and interact with “fans” in a way that is very similar to the way Facebook friends can interact. The introduction of Fan Pages was one way Facebook has tried to make itself more business friendly.
Today Facebook Fan Pages usually consist of an interactive “Wall”, along with a number of other associated pages. These pages (formerly called “tabs”) can consist of things like an “About” page, a “Testimonial” page, a “Tour schedule” page, and any number of specific “Product” pages.
In other words, you can use the Facebook Fan Page platform to build what amounts to an entire website. The ability to do many of the things normally done in websites has been considerably improved by enhancements introduced in
early March, 2011. Fan Pages can now include videos, opt-in forms, order forms, and much more.
