A lot of Facebook and Twitter users like posting “quotable quotes” as status updates. You know what I’m talking about – supposed pearls of wisdom like “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”
I think this is a bad strategy. I know, I know, people who do this just want to keep their face in front of their friends and followers.
But this practice reaks of “auto-post” and says “I can’t think of anything useful or interesting to say so I’m throwing this quote from Ghandi or Einstein out there just to let people know where I’m coming from.”
I think this often has the opposite effect. It borders on spam and that is how most people see it.
More importantly it is almost impossible to interact with or respond to these platitudes. What are you supposed to say to some pearl of wisdom from Michaelangelo or Donald Trump?
