Letting people view your FB page without forcing them to log in

by rick on June 23, 2011

Here's another one of those frustrating Facebook things that you swear doesn't make a lot of sense. You want to tell someone about your new Facebook Business Page. You send them the link. But they can't see the page unless they are logged in. Instead of the link taking them directly to your page it takes them to the Facebook login page.

Aaarghh! Getting help from Facebook about things like this is a long shot at best. Usually, if you look hard enough, you will find an answer to your question on a Facebook forum or Discussion. That's where I found th answer to this one. It appears that Facebook sets the age restrictions to 18+ by default. If you go into your page and change that to "Anyone (13+)" it should be visible to anyone without them having to login.

You set this by going to "Edit Info", then "Manage Permissions". "Age Restrictions" is the third line down.

Our FB business page was working, but now when we type in the address: facebook.com/bethematchindiana they are asking people to log in before they can see our page. I checked our settings and it is set to anyone younger than13…any other suggestions?

Thank you!

Hi Melissa, I’m having the exact same issue. :o ( Did you ever find a way to fix it or did it eventually resolve on by itself.

I, too was having this problem for the FB pages I have. I already had age restrictions set correctly but the problem persisted. The solution that worked for me was to remove any country restrictions as well (ex: since our businesses are in the US, I had restricted our FB to only show for people in the US). Once I removed all countries, it solved the problem. Hope that helps! :)

Hi Otto, Yes, I’ve run into that one quite a few times. Since I create pages for a lot of real estate agents in the U.S., and I am in Canada, if their original page has been restricted to the U.S. I cannot see it at all. I have still not discovered why people restrict the visibility of their pages to certain countries. I think it is a simple mis-understanding. They think “I’m targeting U.S. viewers, so I’ll just put in U.S.”, not realizing that people outside of the U.S. can’t see it at all. This seems like a misleading feature of the FB interface. That feature shoud be buried somewhere in a much less prominent area.
